Benevolence Redefined

Filipino American Physicians of Washington (FAPWA) was first started in 1980. It was initially named as Philippine Medical Society of the Pacific Northwest. It was changed into it's current name in 1991.

FAPWA is a group of dedicated physicians who work with the community providing medical education and professional care. Its target population are the underserved, including those of Filipino heritage and other immigrant populations.

FAPWA's mission is to maintain an organization of Physicians of Philippine extraction affiliation, education, for the enhancement of medical knowledge among its members through continuing medical education, medical meetings, and research, and to provide ways and means of allowing the members to render voluntary and charitable service, either in America or abroad, through collective and organized efforts.

FAPWA undertakes medical and social programs in the Philippines, including medical missions in remote areas. In June 2006, FAPWA conducted medical missions in Cavinti and Pangil, Laguna. FAPWA sends medical supplies and equipment to charitable hospitals such as San Lazaro and Our Lady of Peace. It has also rendered financial support to the Children's Hospice of Children's Hospital. In support of the Gawad Kalinga Program, FAPWA donated its first health center in one of their villages in Burog, Bamban, Tarlac. FAPWA is in the process of collaborating with GK in running this center.

With support from pharmaceutical companies, FAPWA has been serving the Puget Sound area annually with its Health Fair program, providing free health screenings.

Join the FAPWA group in their Health Festival at the Center House Court from 10 am to 6 pm on June 4th - 5th.
