Hypin' up Young Pinoy/ay Entertainers
by Annabel Garcia-Andresen
Summer H.Y.P.E. made its debut at the 23rd annual Pagdiriwang with support from the Seattle Central Community College. This showcase of young talent in multiple genres came about because of the need for programming that would not only appeal and speak to young Filipinos & their generation of peers but to highlight the many aspects of arts & entertainment that these young Filipinos contribute on a daily basis. It also is a way to provide a bridge between multiple generations by inviting both young & young once generations to celebrate our contributions to today's arts & entertainment industries.
Produced, created, & performed by young Pinoy/Pinay artists and entertainers, this production strives to celebrate the many facets & levels that our youth touch in their everyday lives in expression of what they are & what they are capable of doing. With stage management by Battalion Entertainment, Summer H.Y.P.E. showcases a variety of performances. It is not your typical song & dance show because it offers an open stage at one of the largest gatherings to celebrate Filipino & Filipino American culture to spoken word artists, DJs, graphic designers, clothing designers, artists, dramatic renditions of plays, live bands & others. Summer H.Y.P.E. also provides the opportunity to advertise & network with other young artists, the Filipino Community, & the general public.
The program of events provided at the show includes a description of each entertainer & artist & lists their contact information so that those wishing to contact the groups or collaborate with them may do so by using the information provided in the program. This year's Summer H.Y.P.E. will bring back some of the original artists from last year and will also include new (known & unknown) entertainers hoping to share their gift.
Spring concludes as the Summer H.Y.P.E. performers delight the crowd at the Center House Stage on June 4th starting at 5 pm.
