Governor of Washington
I am pleased to extend warm greetings to all of those attending Pagdiriwang 2014, hosted by the Filipino Cultural Heritage Society of Washington.
Themed, Philippines: The Sarimanok Soars, this colorful event is a wonderful way to experience the gracious hospitality and beautiful traditions of the Filipino people. I applaud the Filipino Cultural Heritage Society of Washington for making this even possible. Celebrations like this enrich us all and remind us that diversity is one of our state’s greatest strengths.
This year’s festival also marks the 116h anniversary of Philippine Independence, following the end of the Spanish-American War. It is important that we take time to remember the brave individuals who fought so valiantly during this conflict to protect their native soil.
Thank you for coming, and please accept my best wishes for a memorable time of celebration.
