FAAIE Bayanihan Rondalla

A simple question can uncover amazing things.

The question, in this case: “What instruments make the resonate sound that describes Filipino folk music?”  This question led to the internet and a lot of research.  It led to a musical style called “Rondalla”, a variety of unique instruments (bandurria, laud and octavina) and a leap of faith…”Let’s start a rondalla!”

But starting a rondalla would not be easy.  There were hurdles to overcome: no instruments were available and no one knew how to play them.

“If you build it, they will come.”

Twelve instruments were purchased and imported from the Philippines.  An instructor emerged.  Players were recruited.  Video lessons were produced and Youtube videos were watched.  Music was sourced.  After only two months,  the FAAIE Bayanihan Rondalla played their first gig.

Things have grown in its short, 1.5 year existence.  Since its inception, the rondalla has stayed busy playing numerous shows throughout the region.  Currently sporting 17 members, it has become a family of music lovers.

The members of the Bayanihan Rondalla love Filipino music.  They hope you enjoy it too!
