HUFANA TRADITIONAL ARNIS INTL

Traditional Filipino Martial Arts of ARNIS, ESKRIMA, and KALI
"The Pride of the Filipino Warrior"

by Myrlino Hufana

The Hufana Traditional Arnis Intl (HTAI) was established 1998 by Myrlino P Hufana, the Punong Guro and Pundador. The HTAI Arnis Systems added to the programs of the Bellevue Martial Arts Academy, established in 1991, representing real Filipino Martial Arts. To understand the HTAI Arnis Systems and its principles and philosophy, one must first know the founder and teacher behind it, then the general purpose of its existence, and the goal for which drives the force in the propagation of the Filipino Martial Arts (FMA) in the Pacific Northwest and ultimately around the world.

Punong Guro Hufana, born August 15, 1962 in the northern province of Pangasinan, Philippines, was destined to lead such a daunting task of propagating the most revered Warrior Arts of the Philippines. PG, as his loyal students would respectfully call him, is a fourth generation Arnisador/Eskrimador of the Hufana and Rivera families. His introduction and experience to the world of Filipino Martial Arts (FMA) began at the age of seven before migrating to America in April of 1971. Under the tutelage of his father, Ysmael Rivera Hufana, Sr., and uncle, Milfredo Rivera Hufana, basic lessons in Eskrima was taught.

Fast forward to today, Punong Guro has trained with two of the best FMA teachers in the world – Founder and Grandmaster of Modern Arnis, Remy Amador Presas, and Founder and Grandmaster of Estalilla Kabaroan Eskrima, Ramiro U Estalilla, Jr. As a friend and loyal disciple of both Grandmasters, Punong Guro continues to teach their techniques, methods, and principles under the HTAI Arnis Systems. As the late GM Estalilla would often say, “…techniques and methods are like chickens. Every chef cooks it differently and resulting in a variety of flavors, yet it remains a chicken.”

The Filipino Martial Arts is indigenous to the Philippines. For over 1500 years, the fighting systems of FMA developed and continue to expand in its translation by its modern exponents depending on scenarios by which it demands action. FMA is adaptable, practical, efficient, highly effective, and devastative yet beautiful in its flowing movements. This beautiful but deadly art can be practiced by anyone with good intensions. Kids, teens, men, and women alike enjoy the training and education of Arnis, Eskrima, and Kali worldwide.

PG Hufana invites Filipinos in Washington and the Pacific Northwest to search for a reputable teacher or school offering real FMA training and education. Pinoys and Pinays, bring your children to my Academy! Allow me to teach them our revered fighting arts and educate them of our warrior culture and the impact that has flourished around the world.
